A figure eight knot with the end of the rope traced back through the knot. This creates a closed loop, commonly attached to a harness in canyoneering or rock climbing.
Appropriate uses for rock climbing and canyoneering:
- Tying the rope into a harness
- Tying off anchor points.
Below are the steps to tie the figure 8 follow through for canyoneering:
-Make a loop
-Pass the tail around behind the loop
-Pass the tail through the front of the loop
– Pass the tail of the rope around an object so that the 8 and the end of rope are side by side
-Take the tail of the rope and follow the strand that parallels it going into the eight
-The finished knot should have five pairs of parallel strands with 8 inches of tail
